Since the show's debut in 1947, the ISA International Sign Expo has been breaking records in exhibit sales and attendance. In addition to growing in size, the show's global reach has also expanded throughout the years. Approximately 24% of exhibitors and 14% of attendees travel from outside the U.S. to the show—a percentage that is growing each year. The enormous popularity of the ISA International Sign Expo mirrors the growth the sign industry itself has experienced over the last 60 years. Within this period, sign making has evolved from a labor-intensive process practiced by commercial artists to a fully automated process driven by computer systems and manufacturing specialists. At the same time, new lighting technologies and new types of electronic message centers have been developed. LEDs, LCDs, fiber optics, plasma screens and electroluminescent materials are revolutionizing the ways that advertisers deliver their messages. Likewise, digital imaging and large-format digital printing have created a myriad of possibilities that further expand the conventional definition of signage. |
