Submit a proposal for ISA Expo 2009

Read the proposal submittal guidelines before you submit a proposal.

Deadline: May 30, 2008 (11:59 p.m. ET)

Education Seminar Mission:

The International Sign Association (ISA) provides superior technical and business related education to owners and employees in the sign industry. To accomplish this mission, ISA seeks outstanding presenters to provide dynamic educational seminars for its members and the industry.

Types of Presentations:

Seminar: a lecture format, incorporating some group participation.

Workshop: hands-on activities, incorporating some lecture and discussion.

Length:

Presentations are delivered in the following time-blocks: 1.5 hours; 2 hours; 2.5 hours; 3 hours; and 4 hours.

Education Tracks

  1. Digital Imaging: Digitally printed posters, vehicle graphics, point of purchase displays, transit ads and backlit displays, as well as printing directly onto conventional signage substrates as used in large format printing. Banners and building wraps (mesh as well as exterior and interior wall graphics). Installation as well as de-identification and how these impact making material selection/construction decision.

  2. Suggested topics: methods of establishing a digital printing operation (equipment needed, color management, indoor vs. outdoor inks and media requirements); ways to sell digital printing; information on various types of format printers and their uses. Digital applications and new markets for digital printing; Inks - effects on digital printing.

  3. Digital Electronic Signage: Rapidly growing industry in exterior and interior digital displays, including visual merchandising and store design. Providing best practice on the overall content delivery system and impact on user’s business. proper installation, best practices for content and how to select the correct display to meet customer’s needs.

    Suggested topics: information on POP in the marketplace, including large format LCD, plasma, LED, incandescent, and flipper-type displays ,controllers and content creation and control; how to market or sell electronic signs; EMC (programming and software), how sign companies could benefit from partnering with these vendors; and servicing equipment processes and procedures.

  4. Environmental Issues: In today's world, there is increasing pressure on all businesses to demonstrate more environmentally conscious practices.

    Suggested topics: environment-friendly technologies, recycling initiatives, green manufacturing trends, and energy efficiency.

  5. Graphic Arts/Design: Tools or tips for creating design for the industry.

    Suggested topics: design software, digital/computer-aided products, or tips and tricks for handling design files.

  6. Hands-on: Attendees learn while doing. Sessions are typically held in three-hour time blocks.

    Suggested topics: vinyl applications, laminating digital prints, gold leaf, sandblasting/carving, etc.

  7. Legislative: Public policy issues that impact the sign industry.

    Suggested topics: legal, legislative and regulatory issues.


  8. Management: Management of the complete business or operation; seminar may be directed to those running or managing the business operations.

    Suggested topics: business management, business process and workflow, finance, human resources, etc.

  9. New Innovation and Tools: What innovation or tools coming down to the pike that will impact the sign industry?

    Suggested topics could be industry trends, new software or equipment, best practices, methods or tools to improve business practices or decrease productivity. Please note: seminars in this track will not showcase any one particular company’s product or software.

  10. Sales/Marketing: Sales and marketing techniques to get new or retain old business.

    Suggested topics: sales strategies and processes; branding a product; marketing a product.

  11. Technical: Installation and maintenance of signs using electrical components such as fluorescent, HID, neon and LED, as well as manufacturing and fabrication of signs and graphics.

    Suggested topics: manufacturing/fabrication, design/engineering, or installation services.

How to Submit a Proposal:

  1. Be sure to read the guidelines completely before submitting a proposal.
  2. Submit a proposal online.
  3. After you have submitted a proposal, you will receive an e-mail notification that your proposal has been received by ISA. If you do not receive an e-mail notification within one week, please contact Makita Gray at makita.gray@signs.org or (703) 836-6068.
  4. ISA will review all proposals and will notify presenters of proposal status by September 2008.
  5. All proposals must be received by the May 30, 2008 deadline.
